Sky Sports apologise after presenter comments

Sky Sports have came out apologising after their Formula 1 Presenter Simon Lazenby made a crude comment on Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco, who died in a car crash 29 years ago.

Sky Sports have told the Daily Mail online: “We are very sorry for the offence caused by Simon Lazenby’s remark. His reference to Grace Kelly was inappropriate and, quite rightly, he apologised for the comment live on air. He has also been reminded of the standards expected on Sky Sports.”

The comments came live in the build up to the Monaco Grand Prix today, where referencing the roads of Monaco, Lazenby brought up Princess Grace’s name. Within minutes of his comments he apologised on air and again before Sky went off air at 4.15pm.

The Princess, who was a former Hollywood star suffered a stroke behind the wheel and drove her car off a mountainside just outside the principality in September 1982.

Many people on twitter took to show their anger and questioned the comments where similar to how Richard Keys and Andy Gray were sacked for sexist comments in January 2011.

GlenPh tweeted: ‘If Sky would sack Keys & Gray for sexist comments, surely we can expect a #P45ForLazenby over his Princess Grace ‘joke’.’

What are your thoughts? Is this serious to warrant a sacking or just a honest mistake.
