Weekly Poll: Is the time right for Star Trek to return to television?

This week we’re asking if the time is right for a television new series of Star Trek to be launched?

Earlier this week Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane said he thought the animated comedy should have ended by now and he’d quite like to revive Star Trek on television. In an interview MacFarlane said ‘But I’d love to see that franchise [Star Trek] revived for television in the way that it was in the 1990s: very thoughtful, smartly written stories that transcend the science fiction audience.”

We’re not quite sure than even Trekkies themselves will agree that the franchise in the 1990s always churned out ‘thoughtful, smartly written stories’ but that is separate debate entirely. The debate we want to have is MacFarlane right? Is the time right for Star Trek to be revived for a new television series? Or has its success at the Box Office put pay to any such revival?

Now our poll has a yes or no answer because getting into the cannon debate would be too difficult – i.e should a television revival continue after Voyager, be set hundreds of years in the future or carry on from the new time-line/continuity established by J.J Abrams 2009 film reboot? There would be far too many complicated alternatives for the poll to include so that’s why its a yes or no answer.
