Former EastEnders star Nitin Ganatra is returning to the East London based saga
The actor only bowed out from his role as Masood Ahmed in the soap late last year – exiting on screen in November when Masood departed the Square for a fresh start in Pakistan. However, The Sun has revealed that EastEnders bosses are already planning to reintroduce the character alongside hitherto-unseen members of the Ahmed family.
“Masood has been involved in numerous top storylines since he joined EastEnders and he has unfinished business on the Square. The extended family who are joining him have yet to be cast but bosses certainly want Masood to be one of the soap’s central characters once again.” – The Sun quoting an ‘insider’
Masood first appeared in Albert Square in October 2007, joining his wife Zainab (Nina Wadia), daughter Shabnam (Zahra Ahmadi and Rakhee Thakrar) and son Tamwar (Himesh Patel) in a move to Walford. The family later saw the arrival of eldest son Syed (Marc Elliott) whilst Zainab gave birth to another son, Kamil, in 2010. However, Masood and Kamil were the only members of the family remaining in Walford by 2016.
Masood’s previous storylines included his marriage to Zainab falling apart; a feud with Zainab’s first husband, Yusef Khan (Ace Bhatti); a recurring gambling problem; short-lived relationships with Carol Jackson (Lindsey Coulson) and Jane Beale (Laurie Brett) and his struggle to accept son Syed’s sexuality.
“When I was told Masood still has much to give to the show and is missed by the audience, it was hard to refuse. It is with great pride that I will grow my Masood goaty once again to help create and base an extended family around him.” – Nitin Ganatra
