Karen Taylor’s daughter Chantelle won’t be arriving in Walford alone.
EastEnders announced plans to introduce Karen Taylor’s mentioned-but-unseen daughter Chantelle into the soap late last year, with The Sun confirming that Jessica Plummer formerly of girl group Neon Jungle had landed the role last week. The beeb has now been confirmed that Chantelle’s husband Gray and the couple’s two children, Mia and MacKenzie, will also be arriving in Walford.
Chantelle is billed as ‘kind and bubbly’, but also as someone who is more than capable of sticking up for herself as one might expect from Karen’s daughter. Like Karen, Chantelle’s kids are her world and with a successful husband to boot, Chantelle has everything she has ever wanted. However, it soon becomes clear there’s some tension between Karen and Chantelle. Furthermore, Chantelle adores her siblings and is fiercely protective over them so how will she react when she realises her absent father Mitch is now a big part of all their lives?
Plummer is best known for her roles in feature films How to Talk to Girls at Parties, Wizards vs. Aliens and Reflections. With Neon Jungle, she had short-lived pop success between 2013-2015.
“Just like the majority of the UK, I grew up watching EastEnders. It’s an absolute honour to be joining the cast with all my childhood favourites… Rickaaaaaaaay”. – Jessica Plummer
Gray Atkins, Chantelle’s husband, will be played by Toby-Alexander Smith.
The charming and confident Gray was Chantelle’s ticket away from Taylor mayhem in the past. He works very hard as a solicitor in the City of London, but loves nothing more than coming home to his family at the end of the day.
Toby-Alexander’s previous credits include Doctors, Krypton, Berlin Station, and Flack.
“I’m delighted to be joining the cast of EastEnders as I’ve always been a fan. I’m looking forward to seeing what Albert Square has in store for Gray.” – Toby-Alexander Smith
Karen and Mitch are delighted to see Chantelle but will the Atkins family ruffle feathers in Walford or fit right in?
“I’m so excited to welcome Jessica and Toby to Albert Square. Chantelle is a Taylor through and through: tough, sharp and streetwise. To the rest of the Taylor family, she is definitely the one who’s ‘done good’: leaving home early, and landing on her feet marrying the handsome and successful Gray. But will Chantelle’s picture-perfect lifestyle put her and Gray into conflict with the rest of her family?” – Kate Oates, Senior Executive Producer
