It’s the early hours and Al wakes to find himself on Jimmi’s bedroom floor – it was his lights Jimmi punched out. With Al in a disorientated state, Jimmi calls Daniel and Sid over to assess the situation. As Sid and Daniel bicker over what to do, Al slips away.

Al makes his way to The Mill, but he can’t remember the alarm code and in his frustration he trips and knocks himself out. The police call Daniel to alert him to the alarm at The Mill being triggered, and Daniel, Jimmi and Sid head over there. With Al annoyed with them for their sniping, Daniel and Sid slope away leaving Al and Jimmi alone.

Al recalls his Auntie Sheila and how she took him to a 50’s diner after school and that she helped him get out of PE when the class Bully had picked on him for liking the new girl Gracie. She’d also introduced him to sci-fi. Al’s memories are supported by flashback scenes. The next day at work, Al claims he fell out of bed and when Karen sees he has ‘War of the Worlds’ in his bag, Al tells her how important it is to him.

Doctors, Friday at 1.45pm on BBC One.
