Liverpool born Television and film actor Joe McGann is set to join the cast of Hollyoaks.
The actor will play Tony’s long-lost father, Surgeon Edward Hutchinson.
“I’m looking forward to joining the cast of Hollyoaks. It’s such a great team on both sides of the camera, and I hope to fit in. My mum is really proud to have a surgeon in the family”. – Joe McGann
The character won’t be on screen until later this year and the soap is yet to disclose further details about him.
Tony – played by Nick Pickard – has been with Hollyoaks since the very first episode in October 1995. He is estranged from his father which accounts for the lack of contact between them over the years.
“Tony Hutchinson has been at the heart of Hollyoaks since it began. He is estranged from his father and we felt that as we approach Hollyoaks’ 25th anniversary next year it is time to learn more about our biggest character.
“Kind-hearted, sensitive, loveable Tony has in recent years overcome every parent’s worst nightmare, a critically unwell child. He is now happily settled into married life with Diane – in fact he’s never needed a father figure less.
“But in autumn events will bring Edward Hutchinson to Hollyoaks village and we can’t wait to see the phenomenal Joe McGann bring this huge character to life. I’m thrilled to welcome him to the cast.” – Bryan Kirkwood, Executive Producer
Joe McGann’s previous television credits include Casualty, Night and Day, The Upper Hand and Rochliffe’s Babies. His film credits include Puckoon (2002), Food of Love (1997) and The Brylcreem Boys (1998). He has also appeared in various theatre productions, and has been a reporter for the beeb’s South Today programme.
Hollyoaks, weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4 with a ‘first-look’ episode at 7pm on E4.
