One half of the soap’s popular ‘Robron’ pairing will leave the Dales later this year.
Hawley has made middle-aged women and teenage girls weak with excitement over the ‘Robron’ storylines.
Hawley has played the role of Robert Sugden in the ITV soap since 2014, but has now decided to leave to focus on other projects.
“Emmerdale fans have loved every minute of Robron’s story and what Ryan has brought to playing Robert,” a source told The Sun. “But he has decided to take a break from the show for the foreseeable future and try other projects.”
The son of the legendary Jack Sugden and his first wife Pat Merrick, Robert has been a part of Emmerdale storylines since he was born in 1986. The character was played by Christopher Smith between 1989-2001 and Karl Davies between 2001-2009, before Hawley took over the role in 2014.
Robert’s storylines have since included his relationship with Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller); the manslaughter of his ex-lover and sister-in-law Katie Sugden; being shot by Ross Barton who had made a Strangers on a Train type pact with Robert’s adoptive brother, Andy; and supporting Aaron after he revealed that he was sexually abused by his father.
“He [Hawley] will leave later this year, but fans can expect to see him on screen right up until the end of the year,” The Sun’s source added
