ESPN Player adds fourth live streaming channel

ESPN Player has added a fourth live channel to its platform, dedicated to one of the biggest conferences in stateside college sports.

The ACC Network is dedicated to the Atlantic Coast Conference, which is home to some of the biggest and most storied teams in American sport, and ESPN Player subscribers will be able to watch it live on desktop, iPad and mobile.

The teams competing in the ACC include basketball powerhouses North Carolina (such as Michael Jordan’s alma mater), their arch rivals Duke University (led last season by top NBA draft picks Zion Williamson and RJ Barrett), and reigning National Champions Virginia. In football, the ACC’s Clemson are the current CFP National Champions and among the favourites for the title this year as well. The conference is also home to storied and successful sports programs such as Notre Dame and University of Miami.

The launch of the network includes brand new programming dedicated to the conference’s biggest names and most famous moments, all of which will be available on-demand on ESPN Player. The content is led by four-part documentary series All In: The Clemson Football Family, which offers fans an inside look at the reigning national champions as they prepare to defend their title.

The series captures pre-season training as the Tigers plan for their opener against Georgia Tech and follows the team off the field, including team bonding and summer internships where players give back to the community. In-depth Interviews with the coaching staff also feature, offering an insight into the creation of a team that has won two of the last three national championships.

In addition, Greatest Ever: The 2018 Clemson Tigers looks into how Clemson won the title, becoming the first team in major college football history to amass a 15-0 record following decisive victories over Notre Dame (30-3) and Alabama (44-16) in the College Football Playoff. The 30-minute special follows Clemson’s journey through the College Football Playoff Semi-final and Championship games with never before seen footage and interviews with coaching staff.

Unbelievable: Virginia’s Improbable Path To A Title chronicles one of the most extraordinary seasons in college basketball history, the story of the Virginia men’s basketball team’s incredible run to the 2019 NCAA Championship. The Cavaliers pulled off one of the most dramatic turnarounds in NCAA tournament history in 2019 – winning their first NCAA title after suffering a devastating loss to No. 16 seed UMBC in the first round of the 2018 NCAA tournament.

The Class that Saved Coach K tells the story of Duke basketball’s legendary head coach Mike Krzyzewski and his 1982 recruiting class that, over four years, would overcome a bumpy start to change the narrative – turning the Blue Devils around and setting ‘Coach K’ on the path to greatness.

ESPN add that further content will be added in due course. In other recent ESPN news the sports broadcaster and the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), the longest-standing professional women’s soccer league in the United States, reached an exclusive agreement for worldwide rights, outside of America, to the league’s regular season and playoff matches. ESPN already holds the rights to NWSL broadcasts stateside via a separate agreement announced earlier this year.

ESPN Player has also launched its biggest ever season of college football coverage. The streaming service has, this weekend, started an unrivalled coverage of the 2019 NCAA College Football season to fans in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and Asian countries including Japan and Singapore.
