Channel 4 head to the supermarket’s freezer aisle

Whether it’s a quick visit to grab your tea or a full stocking-up with a trolley, Brits spend a lot of time at our supermarkets.

In fact, most of us visit one at least three times a week, and it’s even been estimated that the average Brit will spend the equivalent of eight and a half months of their lives in a supermarket.

In a four-part series, Supermarkets Unwrapped, produced by Channel 4’s Food Unwrapped team, is taking a deep dive into the nation’s favourite supermarket aisles to uncover the secrets of our trolley fillers and the supermarkets behind them.

Tonight’s first episode sees the team chill out in the freezer aisle to understand how food gets to our supermarket chest freezers. Jimmy Doherty investigates why there’s more to our frozen chips than just potatoes. Helen Lawal learns why frozen ready meals have best-before dates. Briony May Williams gets the inside scoop on soft-scoop ice cream. And Andi Oliver learns how to get the most out of your freezer at home.
