This Morning unleash leopard print sofa in honour of Mel B

On today’s This Morning, Mel B joined Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary live in the studio…

Speaking live on the ITV show she opened up on her upcoming nuptials, the future of the Spice Girls and her emotional reason for wanting to take part in ‘The Great Celebrity Bake Off for SU2C’ special.

Paying homage to Scary Spice’s famous fashion sense, This Morning’s well-sat-upon blue sofa was transformed into a leopard print version for the interview and Mel commented: “Can I buy this sofa? I feel really special!” During the chat Mel set the rumours of a potential Spice Girls reunion straight, saying: “There’s nothing to say… I don’t keep saying it. I’ve said it and then it got taken out of context.”

Before Alison asked her: “I heard you got kicked out of the WhatsApp group as well?” Mel admitted: “That always happens to me… because I say things. You know, I get so excited when it comes to Spice Girls, because it is 30 years. And you know, we’ve got a lot to celebrate the fact that we’re all still healthy and living life and all talking still. It’s nice, so I can’t say anything else to get myself kicked out!”

Discussing being on stage with her bandmates, Mel said: “It’s a lot of fun up on that stage I tell you and sometimes I come off stage and I’ve been on stage for two hours and it seems like a blur because that is literally my happy place.” On performing, she said: “Well you amp it up a bit. I’m still surrounded by leopard print and my girls always.”

Mel also shared her memories of being in the band: “On stage it was a blur because we got so excited but thinking back to all the stuff that we did. You know, I’ve got diaries where Emma’s written in it – nobody’s ever gonna see by the way – I look at it and we’ve just landed in Japan, we got our number one and it takes me right back there.

“You know the certain things that we’ve done together as a group that you can’t really explain it because it happened to us five. It was just extraordinary. I wanted to make sure I remembered everything.” She added: “We were together forever. We are still together.”

Telling Alison and Dermot what her kids think of their mum being a Spice Girl, she joked: “I think my three kids just think well, ‘You’re mum’ and I’m constantly saying ‘Tidy that room, load the dishes’. Angel finds it hysterical, Madison just giggles.”

Mel also revealed the emotional reason she’s taking part in Sunday night’s ‘The Great Celebrity Bake Off for SU2C’ episode: “My Dad passed away from cancer so that was my initial thing of saying yes, let me do it. Because when my Dad died, I then went back to LA and left my then, not very nice, abusive relationship, so he gave me the strength to kind of carry on.” On her current relationship, she said: “I didn’t think it was ever going to be possible because of where I’ve come from, you know, I’ve got a lot of like PTSD…

“Between 2016, to 2024, a lot has happened and I’ve got my MBE for spreading awareness for domestic violence. I’m engaged to be married. I’ve just bought a house, which I didn’t think was going to be possible. I just moved in two days ago! Well, I said I, Rory moved us in… because I just happened to be away working in New York!”

Opening up on the location of her wedding, St Paul’s Cathedral, Mel told Alison and Dermot: “Well, it’s a process that you’ve got to go through because I have been married and divorced twice before.

“And I really actually appreciate the process because they asked me,’Why do you want to get married again?’ You know, under God’s name and you’ve got to think to yourself, ‘Well, why do you want to get married again?’ It’s because I actually have found the one good guy and somebody who really respects me and is kind, really, really hot and lovely.”

This Morning, weekdays from 10am on ITV1, STV, STV Player and ITVX
