Top 10 UK areas most self-conscious about their smiles

Wembley residents are the most self-conscious about their smiles, with an average of 2,105 monthly searches per 100,000 people

Online vape store, Go Smoke Free, analysed Google search data to see which UK towns and cities searched the most about issues with their teeth. The study examined almost 60 different search terms relating to dental health and presentation, such as ‘bad teeth’ and ‘enameloplasty’, to determine which areas are the most self-conscious about their smiles.

A spokesperson from Go Smoke Free:

“Our smiles are one of the first features people notice and remember when they meet us, so it is understandable to want them to look good. Nowadays, you can undergo many cosmetic dental treatments to improve the appearance of your smile and celebrity culture heavily pushes the idea of perfectly straight, white teeth upon us. It is interesting to see that a lot of the towns and cities in the top ten are from the Southeast of the UK. Perhaps this data will lead to a bigger discussion on dental hygiene in this region.”

Wembley ranks top of the list, with a monthly average of 2,105.11 searches per 100,000 residents. This is an increase of over 125% compared to Slough, who came bottom of the full list with only 932.48 average searches. Wembley residents’ top three search terms were ‘dentist near me’, ‘Invisalign’ and ‘teeth whitening’.

Croydon is second, with a monthly average of 1,983.22 searches per 100,000 people. One of the most popular searches from Croydon residents was ‘composite bonding’ which is a process of applying a natural-coloured resin material to change the size shape or colour of your teeth.

Redhill is third on the list, with a monthly average of 1,778.97 searches per 100,000 people. ‘Dentist near me’ and ‘dental implants’ were amongst the most popular terms in this area. Waterlooville comes in fourth place, with 1,754.86 monthly average searches per 100,000 residents. Top searches for the Hampshire town include ‘teeth whitening’ and ‘gum disease’.

Salford is a close fifth, with an average of 1,754.70 monthly searches per 100,000 people. Like other areas, ‘Invisalign’ was one of the most popular searches here. Margate lands sixth place, with 1,692.75 average monthly searches per 100,000 residents. ‘Braces’ and ‘veneers’ were in the top ten searches in this area.

Aldershot is in seventh, with a monthly average of 1,677.38 searches per 100,000 people. The search term ‘teeth whitening strips’ was high in popularity in this Southeast town.

Dartford ranks eighth, with 1,650.41 average monthly searches per 100,000 residents.
