Another departure for RTÉ 2 FM

Another departure for RTÉ 2 FM

The news was announced late yesterday evening by RTÉ…

RTÉ 2FM has confirmed yet another departure with Jennifer Zamperelli set to hang up the mic on her daily show. It is the third programme to be under host changes with the news earlier this week The 2 Johnnies had quit, and at the start of May this year Doireann Garrihy said she was bidding goodbye to the airwaves.

Jennifer Zamperelli has presented her own show from 9-12pm weekdays on RTÉ 2FM since May 2019. She joined the station in February 2014 on Breakfast Republic.

There has been newspaper speculation as to why the popular broadcasters are quitting the RTÉ station, which is a Public Service Broadcaster akin to the BBC in the UK. The latest drive time departure despite having “the most listened to show on 2FM” had led to suggestions it is down to changes at the broadcaster following the Ryan Tubridy pay scandal last year.

RSVP Live note ‘Presenters … would have been subject to a rule change which places restrictions on their commercial activities outside of work. From January, new rules require certain RTE staff to register their interest and external activities by making an annual return, which RTE plans to publish on a quarterly basis.’ the article adds, ‘The rule changes include an approval process for external activities.’

Jennifer Zamparelli:

“I have been working in 2FM for 10 amazing years and now it’s time for me to move on. It has been a really difficult decision to make as I love my team, and of course chatting to you guys (the listeners) every morning.

“From the early starts on Breakfast Republic all those years ago, to opening up the phone lines again from 9-12pm, I have loved every minute. Within this time I have gotten married and had two kids and now I feel it’s their time. Florence and Enzo are growing up so fast it’s scary and I really feel now is the time to give them a little more of me, so I won’t be returning to my daily radio show.”

RTÉ 2FM will announce further details on its summer schedule in the coming weeks the broadcaster notes.
