On this Day 1980: Variety Club of Great Britain ‘Tribute to Crossroads’

OTD, May 19th 1980…

The Variety Club of Great Britain host a tribute to the Crossroads television series which aired on ITV, and was produced by ATV in Birmingham. The celebration event, hosted by comedian Bob Monkhouse – who had also appeared in the daily soap in the sixties, was held at the Nite Out Theatre Club in Birmingham.

Tony Maycock interview with the three remaining original characters played by Noele Gordon, Jane Rossington and Roger Tonge. Susan Hanson joins them, she first appeared in 1965.

Tony also catches up with Tony Morton, an original cast member from episode two, and Sue Nicholls who first was seen in early 1965. Tony and sue were amongst the former cast members who attended the event. The footage also shows some of the members of the public who attended the function talking to their favourite characters, including David Hunter (Ronald Allen) and Barbara Hunter (Sue Lloyd).
