A TV Highlight from ITV1 and STV…
Today on This Morning, Pete Wicks surprised his mate Sam Thompson live on the show from Bloxwich and shared an emotional message of encouragement from Soccer Aid and music legend, Robbie Williams. After battling against torrential downpours and a painful calf tear, Sam said: “It’s not great, it’s a real slow one but I just I’ve done the first 11.5km and the team has been amazing.”
“I’ve read some of the messages and stuff online and they’ve just blown me away but then you [Pete] turned up and I cried again… I’ve got to stop crying.” Pete replied: “There’s a lot of tears but mate, I am so, so, so proud of you.” Sam revealed: “I’ve torn it, I’ve torn the calf, which is awesome but after the first one [marathon] I was like I don’t know how I’m gonna do this but we are on day three.”

Pete replied: “I actually spoke to Gary who’s been looking after Sam and like he said, has torn his calf and he would normally be out for three weeks, he hasn’t got that rest time. So he’s getting up every day with one calf effectively, he’s now overcompensating, which means he’s injuring every other part of his body.”
After speaking with Sam about his injury, Pete surprised him with a special message from Robbie Williams saying: “We have a very special message for you as well, from a Soccer Aid icon.”
A video message from Robbie Williams appeared on the screen, Robbie said: “Hi Sam, it’s Robbie here. You Sam are doing something incredible this week and on behalf of Team England, I wanted to say how proud we all are of your fantastic effort. Keep it up, Sam! I have every faith that you will make it to Old Trafford [Stadium]. Come on!”
After watching the video from Robbie, Sam broke down in tears after Pete revealed the latest tally of donations, announcing Sam has raised over £337,000 since he started his ‘Match Ball Mission’ on Monday.
