Recent game shows get a re-run with ITV Quiz…
It’s quiz a clock, round the clock for fans of the genre as ITV has today said goodbye to ITVBe and welcomed the launch of a brand-new quiz channel – ITV Quiz – a dedicated destination bringing viewers non-stop brain-teasing entertainment from 9am to 1am every day.
Playing host to a line-up of the broadcaster’s recent favourites, ITV Quiz will feature a launch month billing of celebrated programmes and award-winning formats such as Lingo, Tipping Point, Wheel of Fortune, Tenable, Deal or No Deal and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.
For nearly 70 years, quiz shows have consistently been a part of ITV’s DNA. One day after the channel launched in September 1955, Take Your Pick made history as the first British TV quiz to offer a cash prize. Within three years, ITV had turned quiz shows into a national obsession – airing them six nights a week. In the last year, 43 million viewers have watched a quiz show on ITV channels – which is 69% of the population. Quiz shows have amassed a colossal 185 million streams on ITVX in the last year.
ITV Quiz however at the moment appears to not be digging too deep into the archives with the line up focusing at productions produced in the past few years. Memorable ITV game shows that pulled in millions included The Price Is Right (Central), Give Us A Clue (Thames), You Bet! (LWT), Celebrity Squares (ATV), 321 (YTV), Chain Letters (Tyne Tees), Punchlines (LWT), Win, Lose or Draw (STV), Crosswits, (Tyne Tees), Sale of the Century (Anglia), Keynotes (HTV), Lucky Ladders (Anglia), Name That Tune (Thames), The Golden Shot (ATV) and Take Your Pick (Thames) to name just some of the much loved, but languishing in the vaults for years, shows of the past.
Some vintage ITV game shows can be seen on long running quiz channel Challenge, including Bullseye (ATV/Central), Play Your Cards Right (LWT), Blockbusters (Central) and Family Fortunes (Central).
“Whether it’s trivia games, picture games, parlour games, general knowledge or simply luck and chance, ITV Quiz has something for everyone from the devoted trivia buff to the casual quizzer.” – ITV
ITV Quiz is now available through Freeview 28, Freely 22, YouView 28, Freesat 119, Sky Q 131, Sky Glass 125, Virgin 119 and streaming on ITVX.
