The former Love Island participant spoke to ITV earlier today…
Speaking to Good Morning Britain, Georgia Harrison joined Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley in light of being announced as the first ever Love Islander to win an MBE in this year’s King’s Birthday Honours List.
Susanna explained: “She is a reality star who has turned into a very effective campaigner and she’s being awarded for her efforts to tackle violence against women and girls including working with the government on the Online Safety Bill.”
Speaking about what led her on her plight to campaign for image based sexual abuse following her own ordeal, Georgia explained: “I became a victim of intimate image based sexual abuse back in 2020. It was something I chose to waive my anonymity on to take it to court and I had one of the most popular revenge porn cases in the UK, something that had a lot of media attention.”
Georgia went onto discuss how her case resulted in a change in the law as she reflected on how she is feeling at present in the wake of the ordeal, Georgia said: “I’ve processed it now but there will always be an air of discomfort when I have to think about what I experienced but at the same time I can balance it out because I know how much of a difference my specific case has made.”

“I have women messaging me all the time saying because they saw me go through such a tough court case they had the strength to take their perpetrators to court and that isn’t just with intimate image abuse it’s with rape, domestic abuse and other really harsh subjects. They say that because of me they have the strength to go to court so I also know that I’ve now caused other perpetrators, not just mine, to not be on the streets and I’ve helped women through their journey and that is so much more important than what I had to experience as an individual.”
When asked if she felt the government and social media platforms could be doing more to support the online safety bill, Georgia added: “What the government could do is actually make intimate image abuse and the actual content itself illegal. So when you win your court case the content should then be deemed as illegal.”
Richard asked: “What about your future, I know that my colleague here, Ed Balls, who is of course an ex-politician himself, is very keen for you to go into politics, he’s enormously impressed by you, do you think that is a prospect?”
Georgia replied: “First of all, I think Ed’s brilliant and secondly, a lot of people have spoken about that and I’ve actually found speaking and working within the political space something that I love and something I really thrive off and for some reason the doors seem to open for me there but right now, no but I’d never say never in the future as I think it’s something that I could eventually move into.”
