Catching My Stalker – The suburban couple who turned the tables on Terror…
In a chilling new documentary set to air on Channel 4, the harrowing true story of one woman’s relentless stalker ordeal is brought to light in Catching My Stalker – a gripping, emotionally charged film that lays bare the terrifying reality of being hunted and unheard in modern Britain.
Rita Daniels, Commissioning Editor at Channel 4:
“It’s impossible to comprehend Grace’s terrifying ordeal, or the police’s inability to act effectively in a potentially life-threatening situation. As a commissioner, I’m honoured that Grace has shared her story with us. Her unrelenting commitment to justice is nothing short of inspiring.”
Commissioned as part of Channel 4’s acclaimed First Cut strand and produced by Story Films, this powerful documentary follows Grace, a young woman living in the seemingly quiet streets of Watford, whose life is upended when she becomes the target of a dangerous, obsessive stalker. Alongside her boyfriend Daryl, Grace soon realises that the institutions meant to protect them are powerless – and the police, bound by red tape and reactive policies, can’t stop what’s coming.
With nowhere else to turn, Grace and Daryl take the extraordinary step of becoming investigators in their own story. Armed with smartphones, a doorbell camera, and Grace’s passion for true crime, they begin gathering damning evidence – filming, logging, and confronting the threat head-on. In an astonishing twist of real-life detective work, their efforts lead to the capture and conviction of a man who refused to accept reality, escalating his obsession to terrifying extremes.
The documentary features intimate, emotional interviews with Grace, Daryl, and those closest to them, offering raw insight into the psychological toll of stalking. Helen Waddell, the film’s director, weaves exclusive access to disturbing voice notes, obsessive messages, and real-time police bodycam and surveillance footage into a deeply affecting and tense narrative.
What makes Catching My Stalker so striking is not only its suspenseful true-crime element, but its unexpected warmth and humanity. Against a backdrop of terror, we see Grace baking cakes while researching criminal profiles, and Daryl’s martial arts training sessions becoming both an outlet and armour. This is a story of fear, yes, but also of resilience, resourcefulness, and the unbreakable bond between two ordinary people facing an extraordinary nightmare.
Director Helen Waddell:
“As well as a compelling crime story, this film tackles issues we all live with: gender roles, consent, self-doubt, and what it really means to stand up for yourself and do the right thing.”
Executive Producer Liza Williams:
“This is a film with tension, but also with hope. In the face of utter powerlessness, Grace and Daryl fight back. We’re incredibly grateful for their courage and honesty.”
The documentary also shines a stark light on the UK’s handling of stalking. With one in five women and one in eleven men experiencing stalking in their lifetime – and conviction rates shockingly low at under 2% – Grace’s story stands out as an example of what’s possible when victims take back control.
