Rewind 1970…
The classic ATV Today reports continues this week from 1970, and back to the 2nd of October when the last trolleybuses were seen on the streets of Walsall. Lionel Hampden interviewed some of the public transport crews on the end of an era.
The Walsall trolleybus system opened on 22 July 1931, it was seen as the new way of getting around, with several towns and cities adopting the trolleybus system that continued to use overhead power cables but no longer required tracks in the road. Trams had operated, until the arrival of the bus-style replacement, since 31 December 1903.
