ITV has appointed Daniel Robinson to the position of Editor of Good Morning Britain…
Currently Deputy Editor of Good Morning Britain, Robinson has worked in breakfast TV for almost twenty years. He honed his editorial skills spending seven years as an Assistant Editor on the show prior to being promoted to Deputy Editor in 2021.
“Daniel is a brilliant bastion of the GMB brand having not only worked on the show since it began but also having worked in breakfast TV for almost two decades. His enthusiasm, collaborative spirit and natural instinct for a story will serve both him, and GMB, well as he takes on the role of Editor.” – Laura Wilshaw, Editor, ITV News.
As well as overseeing daily content on GMB, Robinson has led signature coverage of key events such as The Queen’s Funeral and The King’s Coronation and produced special programmes live from around the world including Ukraine, Israel and the United States.
On top of this, in 2024 he was responsible for devising, editing and launching ITV’s inaugural Academy Awards coverage as Series Producer for Oscars Live.

Robinson will oversee all parts of GMB’s output on TV and digital from September onwards, before the show moves its production from ITV Studios to ITN in 2026, becoming part of the ITV News hub.
Daniel Robinson:
“It’s a huge honour to take the helm of a programme that I love so much and a privilege to lead our brilliant team who work tirelessly every day to deliver outstanding content. I can’t wait to get started building on our successes and working towards a bright future at ITV News at ITN.”
Robinson will succeed long-standing Good Morning Britain Editor Neil Thompson who will take on a new role as Commissioning Editor, Breakfast news reporting to ITV’s Director of News and Current Affairs, Andrew Dagnell.
Thompson will have a brief to work on the transition of GMB into ITN and will ensure that the programme continues to grow both on ITV1, STV and digitally. Andrew Dagnell said: “Neil has done the most phenomenal job as Editor of GMB and I know in his new role Neil will ensure the transition of GMB to ITV News at ITN is a success.”

The 6am to 9.25am output on ITV is still a ‘separate’ Channel 3 franchise, established in 1983 with the launch of TV-am. It was taken into the ownership of ITV Studios when the last ‘station’ to broadcast in the slot, GMTV, was bought out by ITV Plc in November 2009. In September 2010 a new programme, the first from ITV Studios, was Daybreak which proved a ratings disaster with viewers. GMB somewhat reversed the decline from its debut in 2014.
Neil Thompson:
“Serving as Editor of Good Morning Britain since its launch in 2014 has been the greatest pleasure and privilege of my working life; in that time no other TV news show has known and grown its audience as well as Team GMB. Now in handing over that decade (plus a bit) baton to Daniel I’m filled with real excitement for the programme’s future in its new home at ITN.”
