4290075-high_res-eastenders-2013A new storyline twist in EastEnders sees Max Branning (Jake Wood) arrested following the dramatic car crash which leaves Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) fighting for his life.

In scenes to be aired early next month, Phil will turn to the Square’s new bad boy Carl White (Daniel Coonan), when strapped for cash.

Phil has no choice but to agree when Carl offers him a dodgy deal.

However, it soon becomes clear that Carl has ulterior motives when he refuses to tell Phil all of the details until they are on their way.

Carl’s driving starts to become reckless and following an encounter with a lorry an epic car crash ensues that leaves Phil fighting for his life.

Following the crash Police descend on the Queen Vic where Max is celebrating his brother Jack’s (Scott Maslen) birthday and arrest him for causing criminal damage with intent to endanger life.

The Police claim they have a witness statement from someone who saw Max tampering with the brakes on Carl’s motor.

Max has recently been feuding with Carl who is desperate to win his ex-girlfriend Kirsty (Kierston Wareing) back.

EastEnders airs on BBC One.
