Speaking to the Radio Times, Oates revealed that Andy Sugden (Kelvin Fletcher) and Katie Addyman (Sammy Winward) will have a big storyline over the festive period.
“Rather than going for bells and whistles and explosions, we’re going to reward those viewers who’ve been watching the show for a really long time.
“We have these two characters in Andy and Katie who first got together when they were at school and they’re finally going to make their mark together. So what we’ll see is quite a traditional Emmerdale Christmas for a change.” – Oates
Oates added that Andy’s brother Robert (played by newcomer Ryan Hawley) will “stir things up” for the couple, when he returns to the village later this month.
She also teased that Charity Macey (Emma Atkins) isn’t home and dry yet following her recent showdown with husband Declan (Jason Merrells) over her secret abortion.
“Charity thinks she’s out of the woods, but she isn’t. I sometimes have a look at the comments from viewers on internet forums and people say that Charity hasn’t had her comeuppance and the producer has lied to us. And I sit there in my chair and smile!” – Oates
