EastEnders longest-serving character, Ian Beale, will walk down the aisle a fifth time as the soap reaches its milestone 30th anniversary.
Recently-aired scenes saw Ian (Adam Woodyatt) and ex-wife Jane (Laurie Brett) rekindle their romance with a passionate kiss under the mistletoe ahead of Jane proposing to Ian on Christmas Eve. The couple set a date of 19 February 2015 for their nuptials in next week’s episodes.
Ian and Jane first planned to exchange vows in December 2006, but their big day was all a ruse on Ian’s part as he plotted to humiliate Jane for her affair with Grant Mitchell. Their relationship survived that obstacle and they wed for real, in 2007, but the marriage was blighted by further lies and infidelity and ended with Jane scarpering to Cardiff in 2012.
It was Ian’s fourth after rocky unions with Cindy Williams (1989-1997) and Laura Dunn (2001-2002), and a brief spell as Mel Healey’s spouse in 1999.
EastEnders‘ 30th anniversary week commences on Monday 16 February and the programme is gearing up to go live for the occasion. A thirty-minute live episode will air that week with the rest of its episodes containing ‘live elements’.
