Danniella Westbrook is returning to Hollyoaks as scheming Trudy Ryan.
An upcoming storyline in the teen saga, the details of which have not been disclosed, will see the actress reappear as the character on a short-term basis.
Westbrook originally portrayed the role in early 2013 in a storyline which resulted in Jacqui McQueen’s (Clare Cooper) exit from the show.
Trudy schemed against Jacqui upon employing her as a cleaner, leading Jacqui to uncover a number of illegal activities in which her former prison acquaintance was involved including the production of dodgy vodka and human trafficking with Trevor Royle (Greg Wood).
“We are pleased to be welcoming Danniella back as Trudy for a limited time. She was a great asset to the show in 2013 as part of Jacqui’s leaving story.” – Hollyoaks spokesperson, speaking to DS
Westbrook, also a presenter, is best known for playing EastEnders’ Sam Mitchell for several stints between 1990 and 2010
Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4 with a first look on E4 week nights at 7pm and weekend omnibuses on E4. Viewers can also catch up on demand at 4oD.
Update 23/06/15 – Hollyoaks bosses have put the kibosh on Danniella Westbrook’s return to the show due to a personal issue for the actress. The original story was published on 2nd April 2015.
