EastEnders bosses are to reintroduce the character of Honey Mitchell, played by actress Emma Barton.
Honey originally appeared in the soap between 2005 and 2008; the dippy girlfriend, later wife, of Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) became renowned for her malapropisms including her demands for an ‘epidoodle’ while giving birth in 2006.
Honey and Billy’s relationship was put to the test when their daughter, Janet, was born with downs syndrome as Honey wanted to give the baby up for adoption. Billy was more accepting of the situation and Honey eventually forged a bond with Janet.
The couple went on to have a second child, William, in 2007, however their relationship broke down the following year and Honey subsequently left the Square.
“I was absolutely delighted to be asked to return to the Square! Cliché as it sounds, but it’s like coming home. I’ve had a wonderful time treading the boards but can’t wait to put Honey’s shoes back on and find out what’s she’s been up to and what the future has in store.” – Emma Barton
Following her departure, Honey continued to be referred to as Billy maintained contact with their children and made a surprise return to the Square in 2014. Honey notified Billy of her plans to move to Canada as their son had been offered a modelling job there. Billy opposed the plans until a compromise was reached which saw Janet stay in Walford with her father. The BBC say that Honey will return to Walford again later this year.
EastEnders airs Monday and Friday at 8.00pm and Tuesday and Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One, with repeat screenings on BBC Three at 10.00pm. Viewers can also catch up online via BBC iPlayer.
