Former Coronation Street and Crossroads actor Jonathan Wrather has joined the cast of fellow ITV serial Emmerdale as Pierce Harris.

“I am thrilled to be joining Emmerdale. It’s a great opportunity to be offered the chance to create a new character in one of TV’s most popular shows and I’m very excited to be working with such an outstanding cast and team.” – Jonathan Wrather

Unknown to Pierce, his wife Tess (Nicola Stephenson) is having an affair with Emmerdale’s long serving vet Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt). But with Pierce now on the scene, is it only a matter of time before their clandestine secret is exposed?

When Paddy and Tess first met she was open about being married but Paddy never expected to come face to face with her handsome husband. His arrival is set to be a dramatic one and he will first appear on screen mid February.

Jonathan has a wealth of television and theatre credits to his name and is best known for his roles in Coronation Street, Crossroads and Silent Witness. Wrather is one of the few actors to be seen in both the ITV Central soap opera set in a Midland hotel and ITV Granada’s Coronation Street at the same time across a period in 2002.

In Corrie he portrayed Joe Carter a clothing manufacturer manager who had served two years in jail for fraud before heading to Weatherfield and joining Mike Baldwin at the Underworld Knicker factory on the street. He became romantically involved with Karen McDonald but it failed to last, he departed the cobbles in 2003. His Crossroads character was just as shady, playing barman Sam Delaney at the Crossroads Hotel for several months in 2002. During his time in Kings Oak village he accidentally murdered the step dad of Phil Berry (Neil Grainger) and buried him in the grounds of the one-time motel. The body was later discovered, with Sam framing Phil for the crime. When his secret was almost outed by Phil’s wife Nicola (Julia Burchell) he promptly pushed her down a staircase leaving her in a coma.

Former Crossroads storyline executive Kate Oates has departed the Yorkshire Dales as Emmerdale producer for the top job over at Coronation Street, replacing Stuart Blackburn as producer.
