Casualty’s 1000th episode features a special cameo appearance from the beloved ‘Lisa Duffin’, played by Cathy Shipton, on Sunday 26th June, the BBC have confirmed. ‘Duffy’ will also be welcomed back to the show permanently in August as she reunites with the Holby Emergency Department team.

In its 30th anniversary year, Cathy was one of the show’s original cast members when it launched in 1986. She joined the ED as a determined and strong-willed nurse and made her first appearance in episode one, series one, ‘Gas’.
On Sunday 26th June, Duffy pops down from the obstetrics and gynaecology department and reveals to Charlie that she left her husband and children in New Zealand and is back working as an agency nurse in Holby. Casualty celebrates 30 years of broadcasting this August on BBC One, and is the longest-running emergency medical drama television series in the world. It has a series average of over 5 million viewers. The production is made by BBC Cymru Wales for BBC One and is filmed at the Roath Lock Studios, Cardiff.

Cathy first left Casualty in 1993 before being lured back in 1998, the character was dropped once more in 2003. The actress and character made brief returns to the show in 2006 and 2015.
After 25 years in Bristol the Saturday evening drama moved to Cardiff in 2011 to the BBC drama hub where filming for Doctor Who and Upstairs Downstairs among others took place. The first episode from the Welsh production centre was entitled Buried and was broadcast on Saturday 7th of January 2012. It was also the first edition of the medical series to air in HD.
