Connie Hyde – best known for her role as fruitcake Cathy Bradford in Thames’ police saga The Bill – is joining the cast of Coronation Street.

Connie as Cathy Bradford in ITV-aired The Bill.

Hyde is set to appear in the show as Sally Webster’s (Sally Dynevor) sister Gina who was last seen on-screen almost 30 years ago. Helen Flanagan who plays Sally’s daughter Rosie has been filming scenes for the soap on location with Hyde.

“Rosie, played by Helen Flanagan , appears to be reunited with her mum Sally’s younger sister Gina in upcoming scenes filmed in Eccles. But this time the character is played by a different actress – The Bill’s Connie Hyde from Macclesfield.” – Manchester Evening News

A third actress was also present on the shoot, Molly McGlynn, who is believed to be playing Rosie’s cousin.

Gina previously featured in storylines back in 1988-1989, played by Julie Foy. The character took a shine to Martin Platt (Sean Wilson) which riled her then boyfriend.

Gina has been mentioned on an occasional basis since her last appearance. She was said to have married a long distance lorry driver and to have had two children in the 1990s while Sally went to stay with her sister after receiving treatment for breast cancer in 2010.

Connie starred as PC Cathy Bradford in The Bill between 2002-2004. The crazed character killed a colleague’s wife then held him hostage.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV, STV and UTV.
