Former Coronation Street and Shortland Street actor Adam Rickitt has joined Daybreak as a special reporter for the Conservative Party Conference which is taking place in Birmingham this week. Daybreak signed up the former deputy Prime Minister John Prescott for last week’s Labour conference in Manchester.

Now Daybreak, the struggling ITV breakfast programme, has signed up Adam Rickitt for the Tory party conference. While Rickitt is most familiar to audiences for his roles in Coronation Street and the New Zealand soap Shortland Street the actor did try and launch a political career at one time. He was a prospective parliamentary candidate for the Tory party in 2005 and appeared on Question Time.

 Daybreak airs weekdays on ITV1.
