BBC Radio 2 has hired BBC Sport personality Clare Balding to take over Good Morning Sunday – the weekly faith programme featuring topical discussion, guests and music on Sunday mornings, replacing Aled Jones from January.

Clare said: “I grew up listening to Terry Wogan on Radio 2 with my Mum and I couldn’t be prouder to join a station that boasts a host of brilliant, iconic broadcasters. I am thrilled to be asked to be a part of the Radio 2 family and look forward to sharing Sunday mornings with listeners who know their eggs from their onions, who enjoy music, conversation and sharing ideas.”

Current host Aled Jones is leaving the network to concentrate on his television work, notably hosting ITV’s morning programme Daybreak, which his arrival has met with mixed reviews.

Aled says, “I have thoroughly enjoyed my last six years on Radio 2. Being a part of the network has been life changing and getting to know the lovely loyal Sunday morning family has been so special to me. I will miss you!”

Aled also is one of the hosts of Friday Night Is Music Night and BBC Radio 2 state that Jones will host a new musical series next year.
