Stingray (ITV DVD)

Anything can happen in the next half hour… Yes its time for another Gerry Anderson classic, Stingray. This is an ITV DVD release (Formerly ITC / Granada Ventures)

The theme tune – equally as dramatic as that of ‘sister show’ Thunderbirds – builds the excitement with its opening pounding of drums and the cries of ‘Stingray, Stingray’.

Launched in 1964, Stingray was the forerunner to Thunderbirds – which began production the following year – setting a successful template for ‘action science fiction adventures – with puppets’

In all 39 episodes were produced for ATV, and is noted for its complex underwater model and puppet effects deemed these days as being somewhat ground-breaking television.

Storyline

Troy Tempest is the dark, handsome hero of the show. His position as captain of the titular submarine sees him on missions to protect the world seas on behalf of the World Aquanaut Security Patrol – WASP.

This release is an ITV DVD, however Network DVD have also released a range of Gerry Anderson puppet series including Fireball XL5 and The Secret Service.
