Tuesday evening saw EastEnders drop below 10 million viewers while medical drama Holby City once again pulled over 6 million viewers. At 9pm Taggart was slaughtered in the ratings by BBC One’s Silent Witness.
At 7pm on Tuesday evening The One Show had an impressive 5.6 million viewers – up 600,000 viewers on Monday evening. At the same time on ITV1 soap Emmerdale had 7.3 million viewers; while still a strong figure for the Yorkshire soap it is down 1.2 million viewers on Monday’s episode which had an impressive 8.5 million viewers. At 6.30pm on Channel Four teen soap Hollyoaks had 1.2 million viewers. At 7.30pm on BBC One EastEnders dropped below 10 million viewers but only just; 9.9 million viewers tuned in. Match of the Day on BBC Two had 3.7 million viewers with a peak of 4.3 million viewers between 7.30 and 10pm. Grimefighters on ITV1 meanwhile had 2.9 million viewers.
At 8pm BBC One’s medical drama Holby City once again had over 6 million viewers. It’s the third week in a row that the long-running drama has topped 6 million viewers. Last night’s episode was seen by 6.4 million viewers. On ITV1 at the same time The Secret Mediterranean with Trevor McDonald had 3.3 million viewers while The Secret Millionaire on Channel Four was seen by 1.5 million viewers. At 9pm Silent Witness on BBC One slaughtered the return of Taggart on ITV1. The concluding part of yesterday’s Silent Witness had 6.8 million viewers which was down slightly on the 7.2 million who watched the opening episode. However, the figure dwarfed that of Taggart on ITV1 which returned for a new series with just 2.6 million viewers – however, the new series of the Scottish drama was shown on STV in place of Downton Abbey last year. At 9pm on Channel Four Hugh’s Fish Fight attracted 2.3 million viewers.
At 10pm the eight series of Shameless continued on Channel Four with 2.7 million viewers and a further 300,000 viewers on the time-shift channel giving a combined audience of 3 million. Elsewhere last night Australian soap Neighbours continued in its ratings lull on Channel Five with 1.1 million viewers – towards the end of last year it had topping 1.7 million viewers. AT 9pm on Channel Five, opposite Taggart, CSI had 2 million viewers followed by CSI: Miami with 1.1 million viewers at 10pm.
