He has denied claims that acid burn makeup was a factor in his decision to leave the soap.
The Sun reported on Wednesday that the actor – popular Ross Barton in the rural saga – is leaving the show, noting via a source that he had been unhappy with his storylines and ‘particularly hated’ the make up he has to wear as part of his ongoing acid attack storyline.
However, the actor has taken to Twitter to deny the spin that has been put on his departure from the show.
“Would just like to state the I’m not leaving Emmerdale because of the make up or because I’m going to become a professional MMA fighter. It’s just time for a change….although we all know I could be heavy weight champ if I wanted to be. X” – Michael Parr
And in an earlier tweet he wrote, “Have had the best few years at Emmerdale but it’s time to move on and explore other avenues. If I win that soap award I might stay though.”
Parr has played the role of Ross since 2013, featuring in a string of high-profile storylines, including an ill-fated romance with cancer victim Donna Windsor (Verity Rushworth), and his affair with brother Pete’s (Anthony Quinlan) fiancée Debbie Dingle (Charley Webb), who he went on to have a relationship with despite fathering a child with her mum Charity.
Earlier this year, as part of a current major storyline in the soap, Ross was attacked with acid after getting caught up in a feud between Debbie and Joe Tate (Ned Porteous).
“Michael Parr will leave Emmerdale later this year at the end of his current contract. His decision to pursue other acting opportunities has given the writing team the opportunity to create an intriguing storyline for his exit.” – Kate Brooks, Emmerdale Producer
