Pick of the Plots: Thursday January 31st

The latest goings on in EastEnders, Emmerdale, Hollyoaks and Doctors.

SoapWeek: EastEnders

Nicola and Maddie refuse to leave until they get answers as to Ray’s whereabouts, but Mel feigns cluelessness. The next morning, Hunter spots Maddie and Nicola watching him as he leaves the house. After Jack shares his concerns with Mel about Hunter’s behaviour in the club, a worried Mel looks at the CCTV footage and turns to Phil for advice.

Later, with further cause for concern, Mel arranges to meet Ian. Ian gets the wrong end of the stick and assumes it’s a date and Mel ends up hurting his feelings when she brings up Bobby. Mel later calls in at the Beale’s to apologise and as Ian opens up about what happened with Bobby, she is given food for thought.

Meanwhile, Keanu struggles to keep up appearances with Louise but when Sharon remains firm that it’s over between them, he makes a touching gesture As Keanu mopes, Karen suspects it’s about Sharon but he reassures her it’s not. Later, Keanu goes to see Sharon but what will he say? When Phil later jokes about grandchildren, Keanu panics but is relieved when Phil lets him slip off to spend time with Louise.

Elsewhere, Jay reports Ruby’s break in to the police and is later touched when she cooks dinner for him; the Carters are unimpressed when Mitch brings an old wheelchair to get Mick to his course but Mitch soon rushes off.

EastEnders, Thursday at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on BBC One.


SoapWeek: Emmerdale

Unaware of what’s been happening between Graham and Nicola, Robert beams to Aaron about his plan to get enough money for surrogacy. Will Aaron, Robert and Jimmy fall victim to their own con?

Suffering from withdrawal symptoms and longing for her son, Dawn stares at Laurel playing with Dotty, as a concerned Harriet observes. Later, a self-destructive Dawn downs vodka but fed up of her self-pity, Harriet lays down some tough love. Harriet’s worried however when Dawn decides to go Cold Turkey.

Elsewhere, Maya stirs the pot between Jacob, Liv and Gabby; will Amelia leave the village with Daz?

Emmerdale, Thursday at 7pm on ITV, STV and UTV.


SoapWeek: Hollyoaks

Donna-Marie pleads with Mac that she will help him take James and Marnie down if he lets her stay.

Meanwhile, Cindy is back and there’s a surprise in store for her.

Elsewhere, Nancy spots Laurie and Sienna getting close and warns Sinead about “husband stealing witch” Sienna.

Hollyoaks, Thursday at 6.30pm on Channel 4 and a ‘first look’ at 7pm on E4.

Al and Frances are outside the club when they get caught up in an altercation between two students, they attempt to break up the fight as the police arrive. Later, the pair walk on through an underpass, debating science vs religion, as they come across a homeless man selling mini disco balls. Frances takes out her phone to play some music and they have a dance.

Later, Al and Frances find a café to sit in. As Frances begins to fall asleep, Al remembers the first letter he received from her, and we flash back to said written correspondence with Frances offering Al advice on tricky patients and telling him she was caught speeding. Then we see Al writing to Frances about Heston’s death, and how he found comfort from her.

Finally, we come back to the present where Al received the letter telling him Frances was coming to visit today. When Frances stirs Al has come to a realisation – he can’t come to New Zealand; he has his mum to think of and doesn’t want to run away. Frances understands.

Doctors, Thursday at 1.45pm on BBC One.
