Former Coronation Street star Katherine Kelly has got married in Las Vegas.
The actress married her partner Ryan Clark on August, 20 in a secret ceremony at the Little Church of the West and has spoken candidly about the day in an interview with Hello! magazine.
I love going to other people’s weddings but I have never desired a big white wedding for myself and it has never been put on me as a pressure, an expectation.
The day was everything we hoped it would be – no fuss, low-key, sunshine and just us. We wanted to enjoy the day without all the usual planning and pressure.
We’d been laughing and joking all day and then suddenly everything seemed to stop and we tried to get the words ‘I do’ out without becoming emotional wrecks. It was awesome. I’ll never forget that moment for the rest of my life. – Kelly
The 33-year-old who is best known for playing fiery Becky McDonald in the ITV soap met Clark, also 33 – an amateur boxer from Melbourne, Australia – two years ago.
She adds that she wanted her groom to herself on her wedding day.
So many people say you have to remember to grab hold of your bride or groom and spend time with them. I think if we had done a traditional wedding we would have been doing it for everyone else but this was about the two of us.
Kelly played the role of Becky for six years between 2006 and 2012.
Since leaving Coronation Street, Kelly has starred in BBC Four biopic The Best Possible Taste as Lee Middleton, wife of the larger-than-life disc jockey and entertainer Kenny Everett.
She later landed the leading role of Lady Mae Loxley in ITV’s department store period drama Mr Selfridge – the first series proved a hit for the channel and has been recommissioned for a second. She will also star in a new thriller drama for ITV, The Guilty next month.
