ITV Granada bosses have revealed their latest ratings grabber of a storyline as some of Weatherfields’ ‘best loved’ residents will end up fighting for their lives – following a bus crash. The Coronation Street storyline is set to air in early 2015.
“Planning has started on the dramatic stunt which will be filmed before Christmas and screened in the New Year. The staff of Underworld will be caught up in the horrific crash as they head off on a works’ outing – in a Street Cars minibus driven by Steve McDonald.” – ITV Granada
Corrie executives are keeping the exact details of the road traffic accident secret for now but the official Coronation Street website reveals that more than one character will be hospitalised as a result of the crash and one Underworld knicker stitcher’s life will be on the line.
“Will it be Sean Tully? Will anyone really care less if he has sewn his last pair of cheap frillies? Being in an accident will of course limit how quickly he could rush between pub and factory for shifts. I find its sometimes amazing he can do both practically at the same time. Maybe we’ll discover there are two Sean Tully’s. Sean twins! What a horrid thought.” – TV Critic Queenie
Locations for the smash are currently being explored to find a suitably dramatic setting for the latest sensational Corrie plot the ITV site notes. Emmerdale killed off popular character Butch Dingle (former actor Paul Loughran) in a coach crash, pictured top, back in 2000. In 2012 Channel 4 teen soap Hollyoaks aired a dramatic mini bus crash while back in 1969 Coronation Street previously ventured into bus accident territory to herald the start of colour episodes with several of the characters injured.
