Squid Game comes to life in new Netflix reality competition

Contestants will have a chance to win $4.56 million as Squid Game comes to life.

Following the success of South Korean drama Squid Game, Netflix has announced a reality series which will pit 456 players against each other to win a life changing prize.

Squid Game: The Challenge will stream on Netflix as a ten-part series. The reality competition will see the contestants play games inspired from the original show. Unlike the drama, there won’t be a life or death element to completing the games.

Billed as the ‘biggest reality competition series ever’, Squid Game: The Challenge will be filmed in the UK, co-produced by Studio Lambert and The Garden, part of ITV Studios.

“Fans of the drama series are in for a fascinating and unpredictable journey as our 456 real world contestants navigate the biggest competition series ever, full of tension and twists, with the biggest ever cash prize at the end.” –  Brandon Riegg, Netflix VP of Unscripted and Documentary Series

The news comes days after Netflix announced that a second series of Squid Game had been commissioned. The first series made its debut in September 2021 and grew to become Netflix’s most popular series of all time, with over 1.65 billion view hours in its first 28 days.
