Rob Brydon and Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù unite for ‘Tabby McTat Song’

“Tabby McTat Song” is being released exclusively for charity.

In a festive first, ahead of the film release of Magic Light Pictures production of Tabby McTat on BBC One this Christmas, fans of Tabby McTat, are now able to download the Tabby McTat Song.

The song has been exclusively performed and recorded by voice cast Rob Brydon, who plays busker Fred in the film, and Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù who voices Tabby.

Since the much-loved book, by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler was first published in 2009, families have been imagining the melody of the Tabby McTat Song, every time it is read and performed out loud. Everyone has their own interpretation. Now, the song, composed by the book’s author Julia Donaldson, is set for official release and fans will also be welcome to record and share their renditions on social media tagging the producers @MagicLightPics, ideally accompanied by a feline friend!

Proceeds from sales are being donated to the Tabby McTat charity partner, Cats Protection, a UK charity dedicated to rescuing and rehoming stray, unwanted or homeless cats and educating people about cats and cat welfare.

Julia Donaldson:

“I was so thrilled when I heard that Rob Brydon was going to play the busker. Rob’s been in all of the films in some capacity, sometimes with more lines than others. And it’s lovely that he, on some occasions, has been happy to act quite a small part. This time he’s got a major role and he’s got a brilliant voice and I love the way he sings this song”

In addition, the full score composed by René Aubry, renowned French multi-instrumentalist will be available to download on the 8th of December. The Tabby McTat, animated adventure is set on the streets of London about the warm and wonderful friendship between a musical cat and a talented busker called Fred.

Adapted from the hugely successful picture book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler, the film stars Rob Brydon (Gavin and Stacey) as Fred, Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísú (Gangs of London) as Tabby, Cariad Lloyd (Peep Show) as Prunella, Joanna Scanlan (The Thick of It) as Pat, Jodie Whittaker (Doctor Who) as the Narrator, and Susan Wokoma (Enola Holmes) as Sock.
