Departing Coronation Street star Michelle Keegan has said she is “really sad” to be bowing out from the ITV soap.
Speaking to Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby on This Morning earlier today, the actress revealed that it took her a while to reach a firm decision over quitting the high-profile role of Tina McIntyre in the show.
“I’m really sad! I was thinking of leaving about two years ago, and we spoke about it quite a while ago… and I did think about going a year ago, but I thought I’d do one more year.” – Keegan
Keegan also confirmed that her fiancé Mark Wright does know who is responsible for her character’s demise as he was on set when her final scenes were filmed.
“I know who the killer is, yeah. We did film different endings, but the longer version [we filmed] was who did it. I haven’t said anything to anyone… Does Mark know? Well he was there when we filmed it. But to be fair, he hasn’t told anyone, he’s been really good!” – Keegan
In scenes to be screened next week, Tina is pushed from the balcony of Jason Grimshaw’s (Ryan Thomas) builders yard following a confrontation with either Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne), Carla Barlow (Alison King), Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) or Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis).
The official Coronation Street website has released four alternative scenes that see Tina clashing with each of her enemies prior to being pushed from the balcony but fans will have to tune in on Tuesday 27 May to see which version is aired. Tina is rushed to hospital following the fall where she eventually loses her fight for life on Monday 2 June.
Keegan was joined on the This Morning sofa by some of her Corrie co-stars ahead of this weekend’s British Soap Awards. The full interview can be seen here – http://www.itv.com/thismorning/showbiz/coronation-street-cast-michelle-keegan-soap-week
